PROCTOPLUS

Adjustable, fenestrated, self-illuminating anal retractor. Single-use and sterile.

 
ProctoPlus is a sterile, single-use, versatile anal retractor, which can be considered the evolution of the Eisenhammer retractor*. Made of high-performance plastic, it is lightweight, easy to handle, and fully transparent, providing a 360° view.

The device consists of two valves, one of which is fenestrated, and a dual-lever handle that allows controlled retraction. A screw located at the lever joint enables the blades to be locked in the desired position.

The left lever is hollow and designed to accommodate a Sapi Med light source: the light beam is amplified and directed by the optical rod positioned at the end of the lever, near the blades, ensuring optimal illumination of the operative field.

The large rectangular fenestration on the right blade allows direct access to the protruding mucosa, while the reduced size of the blades minimises the risk of cranial dragging of the mucosa during instrument insertion.

Thanks to its compact dimensions when closed, ProctoPlus can be used in outpatient settings for diagnostic procedures or minor interventions under local or perianal anaesthesia. It is also suitable for use in the operating room for more complex operations, such as:

  • haemorrhoidectomy;
  • surgical treatment of anal fissures;
  • mucosal plication;
  • treatment of anal fistulas;
  • removal of polyps and neoplasms of the anal canal.

 
 
* The ProctoPlus is the evolution of the Eisenhammer retractor (South African surgeon specialized in Edinburgh in 1930 and then house surgeon and surgical registrar at St. Mark’s hospital in London. “The surgical correction of chronic internal anal sphincters contractures S.Afr.Med.J.1951 25(28):486-488”.
