This year’s Austrian Surgery Congress opens with the motto “Optimize the tried and tested – establish the new”. The Congress will present and discuss “what is best”, “what’s new” and “what we can do better in surgery”. The leitmotif will be the preservation and optimization of what has already been achieved; but also an opening to new unexpected advances in the fields of electronics, robotics, telemedicine, digitization, genetics, etc., to evaluate them critically and, finally, integrate them into daily surgical activities.
