Pudendal nerve neuralgia is characterised by unilateral or bilateral perineal pain, which may radiate to varying degrees to the genital region, the anal region, or the entire perineal area. An anal abscess is the acute phase of an infection that, in most cases, affects the small glands of the anal canal, which are responsible for producing mucus that helps the passage of stools. When these glands become infected, a localised collection of pus may develop.
